snow (ice) day

We're still hoping this isn't the only "snow" of the season but on Friday night we did have a slight dusting followed by some wintry mix icing, which made for a beautiful white Saturday morning. It was chilly outside so we had a bit of a lazy morning with coffee and pajamas and Barney, but then we weren't going to miss the chance to get outside for a bit. We met up with Lucy and David in the circle, and Miss Lucy generously shared her sled with Anders.... while she pulled him along!

Anders loved the sled, and it was very nice of Lucy to share since he didn't want to get off once he got on! You can see here how the road was like a big sheet of ice.

We had lots of smiles. Thanks to Mikel Anna for this sheep's wool lined jacket. It keeps the little man warm!!
Anders and Lucy had a ball riding together.
Lucy back at the helm. She is strong!
Not sure if you can see this but unfortunately Anders took a big tumble on the ice and burned his right cheek. He only cried for a few minutes but now he looks like he has chicken pox on his cheek. It's a good thing little ones heal quickly.
On Saturday night, we (Erik and Cathy) ventured out for dinner. A friend was making Julia Child's beef bourguignon, and we just couldn't bear to miss the culinary experience, especially since we just saw Julie and Julia. So, we hired some of the most experienced, high-level babysitters in Greenville: See below. Yes, that's Rob and AC in case you did a double take. We didn't leave until Anders was asleep, so the plan was for these two sitters to watch basketball, eat pizza, and never have to venture to Anders' room. Unfortunately, the little man's teeth struck again and he woke up at least five times crying. Rob had to venture boldly into new territory (he's mostly the play-til-you-drop kind of uncle), and he did so with gusto, never calling us once. His comment was "I think I got the full domestic experience tonight." He tried every tactic in the book, rubbing Anders back, giving him a paci, sitting beside the crib. I shouldn't have been but was laughing hysterically as he described trying to tiptoe out of the room only to step on a creaky board (the one Erik and I have learned to step over); getting Anders back to sleep only to have Smash enter the room and meow; not closing the door behind him for fear of waking A up. I wish he had called b/c I would have put him on motrin duty, but it was so nice of him to go it alone. Meanwhile, AC patiently offered baby tips to Rob and smiled through it all.
Anders loves my scarf. What can I say? It was cold outside.
Another recent adventure we are dealing with is a toddler who is OBSESSED with Barney. Yes, the purple dinosaur has invaded our life, our psyche, our daily playlist. With all the recent teething Anders has gotten to watch Barney a bit more than usual and now it has turned into an addiction. We sometimes find him in the living room with the DVD in hand, trying to shove it into the DVD player, yelling BaaaaaBaaaaaaaa. We're limiting him to one viewing per day, and the below picture represents his crushed little self when viewing number two was not allowed.
Mom, here's the remote. Please please just push play. When we DO push play, it's as if life could not get any better. A huge smile. A guilty pleasure.
Right before bathtime every night Anders gets undressed and, for whatever reason, he loves to run around like a wild man in his diaper. We call it "naked baby time." I'm trying to capture it on video to upload. He's a diaper man on the run.
Catch me if you can. He loves for us to chase him and then dissolves in giggles when we do.
Just a few regular ol' playtime photos.

Happy guy, wearing Keens just like his dad.
I love to take snacks into my tunnel and hang out in there.

Oh how life has evolved, my dear Cat! I love imagining Barney being a staple at the Ching-Stevens household. I'm sure we won't be far behind. Miss you!
