Smashing the Cat

Smashing in front of the heating vent in the kitchen.
We found out Friday, May 22, that Smashy, Smash, the Fat Cat, has skin cancer. He was diagnosed with basel cell carcinoma, and he has it in nine places. It is hard to believe because he is not acting sick and does not seem any different than his normal, sweet, cuddly, friendly self. We took him to the doctor because one of the places on his back started to look worse. A biopsy was conducted, and that is how we got the news. We had taken him to the doc for skin issues twice this year but the cancer went undiagnosed because it did not look that bad and because it is incredibly rare for a dark-furred cat to get skin cancer.

So, Mr. Smash will be having surgery on Monday, June 1. He is 16 years old but his blood work came back completely normal, so we are going for it. He has a lot of life left in him, and this surgery will give him a chance to live a lot longer. Please think about him on Monday because he doesn't know what is coming and he will undoubtedly be in a little bit of pain when it's all over. The surgery will take place in the morning and we pick him up that afternoon. We believe he will bounce back quickly and sure hope that is the case. Smash and Anders have become really good buddies and love to pet one another.
Smashing is also getting a lot of love from across the ocean as Christina, Smash's Mom #1, and Peter and Sean are thinking about him and checking in on him regularly.
